More than ever HR teams need to hire people of good ethical character, not just hotshots with lots of business skills and certifications. But how can we judge a job20candidate’s ethics and character? It’s a great ideal but what’s the reality here? And what about employee training? We train for new skills and knowledge all the time; but is it possible to train for improved ethics and values in our people? Are the old sayings wrong and “a leopard really can change its spots” and “you actually can teach an old dog new tricks” when it comes to ethics? Or is this idealistic dreaming and our values and character are really set in concrete by the time we get through adolescence? Let’s dig down into these questions, share our insights and experiences, and take away some practical strategies.
